I have two beautiful grandchildren I want to see grow up. I have to do something now! This year I've got to be serious about getting healthy. This is my journey toward that goal.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.comBlogger29125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-33211772437338744102017-09-21T21:51:00.001-05:002017-09-21T22:14:07.190-05:00Me

This is not exactly how I want to look when I am at the beach! It's time to get busy getting in shape.

I gained 0.9 lbs this week. That puts me at 202.1. Of course, I didn't do such a good job of eating right or going to the gym like I needed to. I know what I need to do to keep this from happening again. I didn't do it today, though. I ate a "Dude" and a hot fudge sundae from Dairy Queen for lunch. Time to pull my head out and get back on course. Good thing I have Zumba tomorrow.

Another important step to take toward getting back on track is getting enough sleep! I'm off to bed now.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-34661084044227488242012-04-10T21:19:00.000-05:002012-04-10T21:23:02.014-05:00Fun, Fun, FunI've never had so much fun working out than I've been having at Zumba. It's amazing how adding music and some fun moves changed my whole perception of working out. It also helps to have awesome instructors. :-) This is way better than the aerobics classes I took in the 80's. Both of my instructors make me feel like I can be sexy, even at my current size. My hubby tells me all the time that I'm sexy, but that's his job. It's the other comments he makes that let me know I'm really making progress. We went out to dinner on Valentine's Day. When we got out of the car, he said, "I'll race ya!" So, I raced him. Not only did I keep up with him, I actually wasn't winded when we stopped! Later that evening he told me, "I was watching you when we were running, and your butt is getting smaller." (Well... that's not exactly what he said, but it's the gist of it. :-D ) The point is, he noticed that I'm losing inches. You know you're making progress when your husband notices the changes.

I talked to my soon-to-be personal trainer tonight. I have an appointment on Monday to meet with him and get the paperwork done to start my training. I'm excited! I'm ready to learn more about how to get myself into shape and be healthier.

Tomorrow is weigh-in day at work. I hope I didn't blow it too much this past week. I'd really like to get back below 200 soon. I weighed 201.3 last Wednesday. Here's hoping for the best! I'll let y'all know how I did.

My life has been rather hectic, but I think that MAYBE I can get into a writing routine again. I do have one routine that I've almost nailed. At the beginning of 2012 I started going to the gym again. This time I'm taking classes. On a good week, I go to Zumba on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. I LOVE Zumba! I've always liked dancing and Zumba is a great way to get a good cardio workout. Here are a couple of pics of me ready to go to Zumba on March 27.
I'm liking the results I'm getting, too. I've lost a little over 10 pounds since the beginning of the year. I'm also noticing that my clothes are fitting better. (You gotta love it when body parts start getting back into the right shape!)

In a couple of weeks I'm going to start seeing a personal trainer at the gym. I had a "test drive" on Wednesday and I liked the trainer I visited with. He was telling me what we could do to help me reach my goal of losing 60 more pounds. It will be good for me to have a pro guiding me in the right direction.

Weekly weigh-ins at work are still on Wednesdays. We are also doing a "Biggest Loser" type deal at work as part of our wellness program. Our final weigh-in for that is on April 16. I've lost 10.3 pounds since January 16. That's almost 5%. I'm hoping to lose at least 3 or 4 more pounds by the final weigh-in. I've been in a "friendly" competition with our benefits specialist during this time. He's an evil, evil man. We have monthly luncheons for our company's charitable organization and he LOVES to bring decadent desserts. He does it on purpose! The other competitors in our "Biggest Loser" group and I got together to get back at him. His favorite candy is Heath. We got together and bought a couple of bags of the fun size ones and hid them all over his office. We also sent them to him through the inter-office mail. He found most of them right away and distributed them amongst us. Every now and then he still finds them in some little nook he didn't check before. I wonder how many he actually ate.... LOLTinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-17555204774001125482011-02-14T19:04:00.000-06:002011-02-14T19:04:11.105-06:00February 2011 Trackers: 4 Weeks To A Better YOU! Weigh In Week 2Yay!!!! I'm SO excited! I lost 2.4 lbs this week. :-) I now weigh 198.3. That gives me a total weight loss for the challenge of 1.4 lbs!!!!

I have to say I owe the weight loss to getting up in the mornings and exercising. My hubby and I have been getting up early for the last three weeks and doing some kind of exercising at least 4 times a week. I have to admit I was tired this morning and slept in until it was time to take my shower and get ready for work. Tomorrow morning I'll be ready to get up and get moving, though. I want to keep my weight PERMANENTLY below 200.

I better get this posted now. Weigh In Week 1I weighed in today with the help of my friend Donyea. She's always encouraging me and telling me how proud she is when I lose weight. I was a little disappointed with myself, but I know why I gained... I was a bad girl! I didn't track my eating or pay too much attention to what I ate. I gained 1 lb. My weight is now 200.7. I'm still happy about not gaining more than I have. I am keeping track of my eating again, and I'm getting up every morning and doing some kind of exercising. I did some ballet exercises this morning. :-)

I had my hubby take a couple of pictures of me this morning so I can document the beginning of the challenge. Here I am at 200.7! I'm looking forward to losing at least 10 lbs. this month!
Thanks for hosting the challenge, Vera! You can follow my results and the results of the other folks in the challenge here. Wish me luck!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-71163768052577827082011-02-02T15:19:00.000-06:002011-02-02T15:19:02.475-06:00Snow Days and Working Out at HomeI stayed home from work today. The temperatures here in North Texas are still very cold (teens and twenties), and the roads were pretty icy this morning. Hubby and I decided it wasn't worth risking our vehicle or our lives to take me to work. The icy conditions have also kept us from going walking/running in the morning. Being the resourceful people that we are, we got out the "10 Minute Solution" DVD and worked out with it for the last couple of days. Yesterday we tried the "Sexy Slimdown" routine. We both laughed at ourselves because neither one of us has much rhythm. The instructor in the video gets right to it and doesn't fool around! We're going to need lots of practice to get the moves down. We did the legs and buns routine this morning. It was easier to follow, but it will still take some practice to get it down. I don't know about y'all, but my balance is TERRIBLE!

How is everyone else doing with their work outs? I'd love to hear what you do to get into shape. :-)Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-24746031130908216342011-02-01T22:23:00.001-06:002011-02-02T15:48:16.612-06:00Today's Weigh InI didn't get to weigh in yesterday because I got sick less than an hour after I got to work. Let's just say I was not in any condition to weigh myself. I did weigh in today, though. I'm at 200.1 which is up .4 from Thursday. I'm still pretty happy with the fact that I'm so close to being permanently below 200. :-) I'm really liking the way my clothes are getting too big on me. I can't wait until I can go buy new clothes in a smaller size!!! I've been wearing 18W-20W for far too long

The weather here in North Texas is extremely cold and icy today. I work for an electric company, so I had to go to work while most people stayed home in their nice toasty beds or in front of their fireplaces drinking hot chocolate. :-P Management graciously provided lunch for those of us who showed up. Unfortunately, I'm really paying for it! We had chili (mostly grease) with all the fixins, rolls, and crackers. It tasted pretty good going down, but man, oh man... the heartburn, bloating, and gas were just not worth it! I had rice for dinner because my stomach felt SO bad. Tomorrow I'm going back to eating better no matter what they try to feed us!

I hope everyone has a good night. I'm going to hit the Maalox bottle again!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-16765446338934398302011-01-27T22:12:00.000-06:002011-01-27T22:12:25.199-06:00Trying to Run and Sucking WindMy husband and I have done our walk/run 3 times so far this week! We did a mile each day. Monday was 95% walking. I didn't realize trying to run when it's 20 degrees outside hurt your lungs so much! Tuesday was a little warmer and we were able to run about 3 times as far as Monday. We ran even more this morning, but I sure was sucking wind awfully hard when we got home! Wow! I'm desperately out of shape! My husband is very encouraging. He tells me how proud he is of me and encourages me to keep going. I'm glad he's doing this with me. I don't think I would run at all without his support and encouragement. :-) Here's a picture of me in my running garb. Pretty sexy, huh? LOL

We had our annual health screening at work today. We were all SO looking forward to it... ;-) I'm really not fond of getting measured, weighed, pricked in the finger and told I'm fat by a total stranger. There was an up side to it, though. My weight, according to their scale, was 200.0! I was so excited that when I was finished with my screening (they checked cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides, etc.) and I got back to my building, I weighed on the scales we use for our weekly weigh in. I'm at 199.7!!!!! I'm SO psyched!!!! I know it's been at least 10 years since I weighed below 200! I finally met the goal I was trying to reach before I had my surgery! Yay me!!!! I'm ready to tackle my next goal. I want to lose 10 lbs. in February. Plus Size Bloggers has a new monthly challenge. The goal each month is to lose 10 lbs. The challenge starts February 7th. Click here if you'd like to sign up. You will have to post an update every week so Vera can track your progress. I'm looking forward to it, and I think having to post weekly updates will help me stick with my eating and exercise routine.

I better get to bed now. Gotta get up at 5:00 to go walk/run before work! Good night everyone.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-2759047321607463442011-01-22T22:18:00.000-06:002011-01-22T22:18:26.960-06:00Surprising Weight LossI can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I LOST weight during my recovery! When I got on the scales at the doctor's office I couldn't believe my eyes... they read 201.0! Wow! I was amazed! I was sure I was going to be disappointed about my weight. After thinking about it, I'm guessing the best thing that happened to my waist was that I was away from the stresses of my job and all the goodies that everyone brings! Christmas is the absolute worst time of year for anyone who is trying to lose weight! Especially when you work where I do. During the entire month of December, people bring in cookies, candy, pies and cakes to share with everyone. I usually eat whatever everyone brings. No self control! I know being at home and away from all the junk really saved my this year. I'm glad I was home during most of the holiday season. I had a few baked goodies from my mom, but not as much as I usually have. I'm glad that the holidays are over and there won't be so many temptations to lure me away from my goals when I go back to work on Monday. :-)

I think I did pretty well on my grocery shopping yesterday. I spent a total of $82.11. The best part about that is I got enough meat to last us nearly 2 weeks and still bought dishwasher detergent and aluminum foil. I was even able to buy enough salad fixings to get me through my first week back to work. Not bad for only spending $82! I'm learning that buying everything at Wal-Mart isn't always the cheapest way to go. Albertson's had a really good sale this week. Pork chops and ground turkey for $1/lb! That's how I was able to get 2 weeks worth of meat for so little money.

The doctor released me yesterday, but told me not to do any strenuous abdominal exercises for another month. He told me I could jog, though. Hubby and I are supposed to start either walking/running or going to the gym in the mornings before work starting Monday. The weather will determine whether we go to the gym or walk/run. Bring it on! I'm ready to get into shape and start feeling good about myself.
Since things have been going well and I haven't had any complications, I expect a full release from the doctor. Of course that means going back to work, but more importantly, that means getting busy with my exercising and weight loss. It's been kind of fun not having to go to work for the last six weeks, but I miss my buds! I have such an awesome support group in the girls (and guys) I work with. I don't look forward to the work, but I look forward to being amongst my friends again. :-)

That being said, someone PLEASE kick me in the @$$ for not watching what I was eating while I was sitting on the couch recovering from my surgery! I'm afraid to step on the scales at the doctor's office tomorrow. I know I'm not going to like what they say. I just hope it's not, "One person at a time, please!" That is not cool! I'll be getting back to the gym for sure after my release.

I'm also going to the grocery store tomorrow to get some food! I've been on a really tight budget for the last two weeks. Tomorrow I'll be able to buy what I need to eat right and take my lunch to work to stay on track. Hopefully I'll save a lot of money while I'm at it. I've been clipping coupons and checking the sales to see where I need to go to get what I need at the best price. I'm so glad that I have 3 grocery stores and a Wal-Mart within 2 miles of my house. It makes it so much easier to do my shopping. Especially if I have to go to more than 1 store to do it.

Speaking of grocery shopping, I need to get my plan together for tomorrow. I've got to find my relevant coupons and plan my trip. I'll try to post tomorrow to let you know how I did and what the scales at the doctor's office said. So.... let's get this party started!

(Yes, I realize it's the 6th! I'm slow! :-P) I know I need to lose weight. What I need is a plan to make that happen. My husband and I are going to start running once the doctor releases me. We'll also be hitting the gym to build some strength. My goal is to get down to 140 lbs or a size 10 by the end of the year. Since I won't know how much I weigh until I go back to the doctor on the 21st, I don't know how many pounds I'll need to lose to get there, but it should be somewhere around 60 to 70 pounds. I'll definitely have to get back to eating healthier... since my surgery, I've been a terrible slacker. :-( I'm actually a bit afraid of what the scale will say. I think I'll go back to the way I was eating before my surgery. I lost about 7 lbs in a month. That's not bad. If I lose 7 lbs. every month, that's 84 lbs... that would be awesome! That's it! That's the plan! Eat like I was eating before my surgery (OLD Weight Watchers plan from the 90's), walk/run with hubby, and hit the gym a few times a week. I'll also join the January Go The Distance over on Robby's site. I'm already doing some walking. Hubby and I walked 8/10 of a mile this afternoon. Not very far, but I have to start somewhere. :-)

Another goal I've been thinking about is saving money. That's a little tougher than losing weight, I'm afraid. I've been researching "couponing". I saw the show "Extreme Couponers" earlier this week and thought, "I'd like to buy $600.00 worth of groceries and personal care products for $2.00!" I bought my 2 Sunday papers and have been diligently clipping the coupons... we'll see if I can get the savings I'm looking for. No matter how much I save, it'll be better than not saving anything... every penny counts!

My last goal for this year is to blog more. In addition to this blog, I have a genealogy blog that has been terribly neglected. This is as good a time as any to get back into my family history and blogging.

Happy New Year everyone! I'm off to clip some more coupons and then go to bed.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-8218927923450019762010-12-22T13:32:00.000-06:002010-12-22T13:32:25.700-06:00Recovering from SurgeryI had my hysterectomy surgery on the 9th of this month, and I'm on my way to feeling much, much better. I'm glad the hardest part is over, and I can't wait until I can get out of total couch potato mode next week. My husband has been doing an awesome job of taking care of me. He cooks me breakfast in the mornings (we had biscuits and gravy and cinnamon rolls this morning) and dinner every night. He really is an awesome cook. I just hope I don't gain too much weight while I'm recovering. I haven't even been trying to track what I've been eating. I think it would scare me! Yikes!!!

I have been doing a little bit of walking, but I have no idea how far I'm going. It's not anywhere near the 2 miles that my hubby and I did at the end of November, but at least I'm able to move around. The doctor told me to slowly start increasing my activity. I can start doing light housework next week. Yay... I think... ugh! At least it will get me off the couch more. I thought I was a couch potato before my surgery, but wow, my butt really gets sore from all the sitting! I must get up from my desk a lot more than I realize when I'm working.

When I went to the doctor on Monday, I was a bit disappointed with my weight. I'm at 203.6. That's almost identical to what I weighed on the 7th which was 203.4. I was hoping that I'd at least lose a little from the surgery... oh well... I'll get there. On the up side, my husband says I look healthier than before... my color is good and I seem happier. I told him the happier part of that was due to not having to drag myself to work five days a week. :-)

I don't have a scale at home, so I won't be able to post my weight until I am cleared to go back to work. Hopefully, I'll be able to lose a little before I start working again.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year everyone!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-82236648289984844762010-12-02T18:15:00.000-06:002010-12-02T18:15:25.109-06:00Pumpkin Fluff RecipeI forgot to talk about the pumpkin fluff I made at Thanksgiving. I turned out pretty good. :-) It tasted pretty close to pumpkin pie. The best part about it is that it's SIMPLE, and according to Hub Pages it's only 2 points per serving if you're following the points system on Weight Watchers. :-)

Ingredients:

8 oz. sugar-free or fat-free Cool Whip, thawed

1 small box of instant vanilla pudding

1 can pumpkin puree

1 Tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together

Serve and enjoy. Makes 4 servings. Keep Chilled

This recipe comes from hub pages. There are a couple of other pumpkin recipes on the same page. Here's the link. http://hubpages.com/hub/Pumpkin-Desserts-Low-Point-Low-Calorie If you try it, let me know what you think. If you have a recipe you'd like to share, I'd be glad to post it here.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-67384317903427173862010-11-29T23:04:00.000-06:002010-11-29T23:04:03.754-06:00OK... Why Does Exercise Have to Hurt?Whew! I'm glad Thanksgiving weekend is over! I think I've eaten enough turkey to last me for a while! It sure was damn good though. :-D

My husband and I started walking/running yesterday. It was mostly walking, but we ran a little bit. We measured out a 2 mile route and followed it yesterday. We started out walking and then we ran until I was sucking wind pretty hard then we walked until I caught my breath and then we ran some more. We did that the whole 2 miles... I'm surprised I even went 2 miles... I've never done that before. I'm desperately out of shape! My husband, who is a 2 pack a day smoker, can run farther than me before he runs out of breath! That's not fair! LOL It's what I get for being such a couch potato for the last several years. Something else that's not fair is the way my legs feel today. They are very sore. When I stand up to walk, it takes me a few steps to stop feeling like I have knives stabbing me in my calves and shins. It'll be better in the morning... at least that's what my husband tells me. We'll see about that! LOL

I joined #DecGTD... December Going the Distance. Robby at http://fatgirlvsworld.blogspot.com
challenges us to "Go the Distance" each month. We set our own goals and then post our efforts on the spreadsheet Robby has provided. She's added some new categories this month... servings of fruits and vegetables eaten, ounces of water drunk, a column for how you feel. This is my first GTD. It will be a good way to track the miles I walk/run. I set a goal of 30 miles for December. I'll be out of commission for a while after my surgery, but I think I'll be able to manage 30 miles by the end of the year. Thanks for the challenge, Robby.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-41008475294789715822010-11-25T18:04:00.001-06:002010-11-25T18:47:48.687-06:00Happy Thanksgiving!I'm so stoked! According to my family, I made the most awesome turkey EVER! All I can say is Claire Robinson is an awesome cook! I used her recipe from her 5 Ingredient Fix show. Here's the link again. :-) http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/claire-robinson/classic-turkey-in-5-recipe/index.html

This is what it looked like when it came out of the oven. It was very moist and tender. This was the first turkey that I've ever cooked and I'm 45! I'm so glad it turned out so well. :-D My fantastic husband made the dressing and potato salad. He also made a coke salad. I love it when he cooks. :-D

I did pretty well with my portions when I ate, too. I usually fill my plate to overflowing and go back for more. This year I only ate a small amount of everything and ate more turkey and salad than anything else... I did have a small sliver of my pumpkin pie, though. It was good, too.

I have one more Thanksgiving dinner to get through tomorrow. I'm excited, though. Mom is trying to lose weight, too so she said she would do things in a healthy way. But what I'm excited about is that both of my children and both grandchildren are going to be with us! Our son has been in town from New Jersey and we're going to have him and his son with us tomorrow! Our daughter has the day off from work tomorrow, so she and her daughter get to be with us, too! After all, spending time with the family and counting your blessings is what Thanksgiving is all about.

I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving with their families and friends.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-26163316631761062322010-11-24T22:32:00.003-06:002010-11-24T22:41:16.519-06:00Pumpkin Pie... Yummy!I must really love my family. I made this pumpkin pie for my family for Thanksgiving. It smells really good. I LOVE pumpkin pie, but I won't be eating any this year. My friend Ellen found a "pumpkin fluff" recipe for me. I'll be trying it tomorrow. I'll report how it tastes sometime this weekend. :-)

Gary and I are making our first Thanksgiving dinner. We usually have dinner with each of our families, but this year we're having one of our dinners at home. The turkey is thawed and I will be getting up bright and early to put it in the oven. I'll be using Claire Robinson's recipe from her 5 Ingredient Fix show. Here's a link. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/claire-robinson/classic-turkey-in-5-recipe/index.html. Wish me luck cooking my first turkey!

Good night everyone!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-53899190638025661082010-11-23T22:51:00.001-06:002010-11-23T22:57:20.645-06:00Surprise! Good Weigh In TodayI totally don't understand how I had a good weigh in today. I didn't track my eating or get any kind of extra movement this past week. (Back to the tracking and getting SOME kind of exercise this week). I'm pleasantly surprised.... actually, I'm amazed. I'm at 204.3. That's down 2.1 lbs. from last week. Only 4.3 lbs. to go to reach my goal. :-D

I'm a bit fearful of Thanksgiving. I LOVE pumpkin pie. I look forward to it every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I had a tiny sliver of it at our work luncheon on Thursday, but I don't know if I'll be able control myself with the pie in my own house... I'll think of something.... maybe just a tiny piece... oh, crap!!!! I'll have to fill up on salad and turkey. :-( Oh well, at least I won't be walking around saying, "I can't believe I ate the WHOOOOOOLE thing."

Well, I better go to bed now. At least tomorrow is the end of the work week and I can look forward to a 4 day weekend. And there will be NO black Friday shopping in my future... I'm broke!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-86062566293594823912010-11-21T19:37:00.001-06:002010-11-21T19:39:02.341-06:00What a week!I've been avoiding writing this post all week. I don't know why, but I have. I gained 0.2 lbs. this week, but I'm okay with that. It's really nothing I can't overcome. I was even sticking to my food plan really well... until Thursday. We had our Thanksgiving luncheon at work on Thursday, and I ate too much! The will power and determination that I've had for the last three weeks just went up in smoke! There was pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie and that green jello salad with the mini marshmallows (I love that stuff!)... I did try to control my portions. I ate just a sliver of the pumpkin and sweet potato pies and just a couple of tablespoons of the green stuff, but boy did I feel guilty! I feel like I let myself down. I've been trying so hard to eat right, and I have for the most part, and I blew it on pie!

I was better on Friday, at least during the day... I stuck to my plan until I got home. I was SO exhausted when I got home, I let my tiredness get the best of me and ordered pizza for dinner. I only ate two slices, but not long afterward I fell asleep on the couch. I was in bed before 9PM.

Well, now that I look at it, I didn't do as bad as I thought. I didn't eat as much as I would have eaten in the past on a luncheon day at work. I didn't go home feeling all miserable like I've done in the past. I totally skipped dinner that night... I was still feeling full.

I'm pretty close to being back on track now. I made fajitas for dinner last night. No guacamole and only a small amount of sour cream on one of them. :-) Tonight I had pork chops and rice... I really need to buy more vegetables for home! I eat a lot of spinach salad for lunch at work, but I don't have the same stuff at home for lunch on the weekends.

I'll get the hang of this! At least I'm actually trying!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-66104384290236905732010-11-13T16:46:00.001-06:002010-11-13T22:24:49.009-06:00Just a Quick UpdateI don't mean to brag, but I've been having an awesome week, as far as my diet goes. :-) I've been sticking to my eating plan pretty well. I haven't totally wasted my optional calories on soda, and I'm getting my 8 glasses of water in on most days. The cool thing about this plan is that you can use non-caramel colored diet soda as water, as long as you drink at least 4 glasses of regular water, too. I try to drink all 8 of my glasses of water as plain water and use my diet soda for a treat. :-) Not drinking Dr. Pepper has been a challenge for me, but I've finished drinking the last of the caffeine-free Diet Dr. Pepper, and I promised myself I wouldn't drink it anymore. One of my friends at work is seeing a nutritionist and she was told that caramel colored sodas are really bad for people. I'll have to do some research on that and get back with you on it.

I made turkey/beef burgers and oven fries for dinner on Wednesday. They were really yummy, too. Even my husband liked them. To make oven fries, you quarter your potatoes long ways and lay them on a baking sheet. Drizzle them with a little bit of olive oil and season them with garlic powder, a little salt and pepper, and paprika. Bake @ 375 degrees until browned (about 35 minutes). According to my Weight Watcher's information, 10 oz of these is 2 Bread selections and 2 Fat selections. It's definitely a meal that is satisfying and feels like you're cheating, even though you're not. :-)

Well, my dishwasher is calling. I better get my dishes done so I can cook dinner in a little while!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-90121727837528853292010-11-09T22:30:00.000-06:002010-11-09T22:30:38.468-06:00Awesome Weigh In!Great news! I lost 4.4 lbs this past week! I'm so excited! I wasn't expecting to lose that much at one time. I now weigh 206.2. Now I just have 6.2 lbs to go to get down to 200.

It's been a VERY long time since I've been below 200. I was about 180 when I met my husband in 1996. (We were both a lot thinner back then.) I've struggled with my weight most of my life. The only time I ever considered myself thin was at the end of my senior year of high school. I weighed around 120, which is good for my 5'3" frame. When I got to college, I put on the "freshman 15" and I just kept on gaining. I got married to my first husband just before I graduated from college. About a month after graduation, I got pregnant with my first child and gained even more weight. I managed to lose most of the weight I'd gained with my first child when I discovered I was pregnant again....

I've been on the "weight loss rollercoaster" ever since. Mostly because I've been lazy and haven't exercised or cooked healthy meals. I'm tired of being the lazy, fat, unhealthy person that I've become. My pending surgery has helped me focus on what I need to do to get back into shape. (and I don't mean round!) Health wise I am lucky that my body shape is a pear instead of an apple. I don't have high cholesterol or high blood pressure, and I'd like to keep it that way. I've promised myself I'm going to lose this weight! I'm so thankful for my family and friends who are so supportive and love me the way I am, but they know I'll be so much better off when I lose the weight and get healthier. I love all of you! Thank you for caring about me and showing your support.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-20148715957802976412010-11-07T21:59:00.000-06:002010-11-07T21:59:34.225-06:00Better DayI had a better day today. :-) I was able to go to the grocery store this morning and get some good food. I bought chicken and ground turkey and real vegetables. :-) I had a good day sticking to my food plan, too. I only went over my bread selections by 1, and everything else was spot on! I even drank all of my water! Yay! It makes me feel good to meet my eating goals. :-) Two more days until weigh in. I'm actually a bit anxious to see the results of my changes to my eating habits. I know, I know... a few good days won't make me instantly thinner, but it's a start. I'm encouraged by what I've been doing. I haven't been feeling really hungry, either.

I forgot to state my goal for this month! I'm wanting to get below 200 lbs. by the end of the month. So I need to lose 10.6 lbs. I'm having a hysterectomy on Dec 2nd and I don't want to be heavier than 200 lbs. when I go in. I feel I will heal faster if I lose some of this weight. I was over 200 in 2007 when I had an appendectomy, and it took me 2 weeks to recover. Of course, it didn't help that they had to open me up instead of doing it laparoscopically. I know a hysterectomy takes longer to heal. I just want to give myself a good start. I'll be starting my ab exercises tomorrow. It can't hurt....

I better go to bed now. I'm sleepy! Sweet dreams everyone.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-70026562414409643912010-11-06T21:13:00.000-05:002010-11-06T21:13:51.096-05:00Feeling a Bit Under the WeatherToday's been a rough day. I'm not feeling really well. I did try my best to continue to eat right. I had oatmeal w/cinnamon, an apple, and a cup of skim milk for breakfast. Oatmeal is pretty filling and helps curb snacking for me. Lunch was a bologna sandwich on wheat bread. I know it wasn't totally healthy, but it's still within my diet. Dinner is another story. We had macaroni and cheese w/ground beef. Since I wasn't feeling well, I didn't go to the grocery store today. I hope I'm feeling better tomorrow. I have to get to the store and get some healthy food! Tomorrow should be a better day. :-)Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-41454564962443814242010-11-04T21:43:00.000-05:002010-11-04T21:43:43.494-05:00Good Day!I'm fairly pleased with myself today. :-) I finally got all of my vegetables in for the day... plus 1! I found a recipe that I had gotten in '94 for pumpkin muffins. They actually taste pretty good. The best part about these muffins is you get 6 muffins for 1 serving! I'm glad I decided to bake them last night. (I even made a special trip to the store to get the ingredients.) They really helped me stay (mostly) within my allowed selections.

The last three days have shown me how terrible my eating habits have been. I still haven't gotten my protein selections down to 5, but at least I only had 6 today. I had 9 1/2 on Tuesday! Once I do my grocery shopping on Saturday, I'll be able to put some menus together and plan my days. I didn't get where I am overnight. It will take a while to get back to a decent size.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134382887025540594.post-18208281396460547782010-11-02T22:10:00.000-05:002010-11-02T22:10:54.466-05:00Finally Getting Back Into the GrooveIt's been too long since I've really tried to eat right. I decided today that I want to follow the classic Weight Watcher's plan that uses food selections instead of the points system. I've followed each of them before, and I was much more successful with the food selections. To me, the points system allows too much flexibility. I really have to have more structure than the points system provides. I won't be going to any meetings, but we are still doing weekly weigh-ins at work. I told the girl who keeps track of our weight of my plans, and she was very encouraging. There is another girl at the office who is following a different program who was also encouraging. I'm making myself accountable to her as well. I'm hoping that a little more accountability will give me the small push I need to keep me on track.

Today was a challenging eating day because I didn't plan my grocery shopping this weekend. I bought the usual ground beef, processed cheese product, sugary cereal, white bread, and whole milk that have brought me to this point instead of the chicken, vegetables, whole grains, and fresh fruit that I need to be eating. This will surely be a challenging week! Fortunately, I DO have some tuna and oatmeal in the pantry and broccoli in the freezer. (I just had broccoli for a snack!) I might make it through the week with those. :-)

I took my measurements again. My bust is 44", waist 41", hips 50", and thighs 26 1/2". I have actually lost some inches since the first of the year... 1" in the bust and 2 1/2" in the thighs! Wow! I figured it would be worse. When I weighed this morning, my weight was 210.6 lbs. That's a loss of 5.6 lbs since the first of the year. Pretty sad for 10 months. :-(

I'm going to be taking a trip to the grocery store tomorrow to get a few more healthy foods to get me through the week. I'll have to plan a menu for next week and plan my grocery buying accordingly.

Better get to bed for now.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05631219536084490304noreply@blogger.com0
